Here are three reasons why I chose to set up a clinic for weight loss:

  • I really dislike the advice “Just eat less and exercise more”. It makes it sound like people who are overweight are stupid. It’s insulting and doesn’t acknowledge that it is actually quite hard to eat less.
  • I don’t agree that to lose weight you need to stop eating foods you like and deprive yourself. No one wants to be hungry for the rest of their life. A long-term approach means you have to be able to eat what you like and not feeling deprived.
  • Most people focus on which foods they should and shouldn’t eat, but I’ve always believed that the real battle for weight loss is in the mind.

And so I created a weight loss programme where:

  1. The focus is on changing behaviour and habits, not dieting.
  2. There is no deprivation or missing out on socialising. (Yes, you can lose weight without deprivation)
  3. The focus is on you achieving long-term weight loss, not a short-term fix.

My Background

I have a medical degree and a master’s in psychological medicine. I have been running this clinic since 2009.

Over the years, I’ve always been enthusiastic about capturing my weight loss approach on paper and letting others know about it. So I’ve written three best-selling books on weight loss for women over 40.  I like to think of “Slim and Healthy without Dieting” as an introduction to my approach. Then “Losing Weight After 40” and “Slim After 40” are about real-life stories and examples of how clients of mine “live” the Dr K approach.
