The right way is to focus on the long-term.

For instance, instead of focusing on trying to lose weight over the next few weeks (which is what most diet failures do), focus on getting to and staying at your ideal, healthy weight, so that by next year, you don’t have to worry about picking another diet.

Most people can’t contemplate thinking in terms of losing weight over months not weeks, and that’s why they fail.

2. You do some of the right things, but you never do them for long enough.

If you’ve applied a behavioural approach to your life, but not been able to achieve any lasting success, then there’s one reason:

You’re not sticking with it long enough.

Remember these two absolutely vital points:

1. It will always take you longer than you expect to lose and control your weight.

2. The only way you can fail to lose weight is if you give up.

You need to shift your expectations:

Expect it to take longer than you thought.

Expect LOTS of setbacks

Expect to second-guess yourself a lot.
