I was at a cafe the other day, and as we asked the waiter for our different preferences, it was clear that they were “out of stock” of half the stuff on the menu. We would have to settle for what they had remaining.
So what did we do? Did we settle for what was available?
No. We walked out.
And it was the right thing to do, because you can eat whatever you want, but if that’s the case, you should only eat what you really want to eat.
You don’t settle for second best. Because second best is wasted calories.
We could have chosen the best of what was on the menu (and in-stock), but it would not have been what we wanted. Fortunately our decision was helped by the fact that there were other similar places nearby, but the principle remains the same. Don’t eat something just for the sake of it.
