I meet so many women who are convinced that they are failures because, despite success in other areas of their life, they have not managed to lose weight.
Let me say this loud and clear:
And let me repeat it once more to be absolutely clear:
Not managing to lose weight so far, doesn’t indicate anything about you. Most people in our society have struggled to lose weight. This is not an indictment on them. It is an indictment on our society’s obsession with diets as a solution to weight.
Diets don’t work. They are short term, drastic and depriving. If you have tried to lose weight on a diet, you have given yourself a very low chance of success. And it is not your fault that you have chosen diets to try and lose weight in the past, because when you look around for ways to lose weight, the overwhelming majority of solutions out there are diet-based.
It is perfectly understandable if you have tried to lose weight over many years, and tried many different approaches and still not been able to conquer your weight, that you would begin to feel that there was something wrong with you. But the failure wasn’t yours. It was the failure of the method. There is nothing wrong with you.
Studies have shown that with people who have lost weight and kept it off, most of them had multiple attempts to lose weight before they succeeded. There was nothing magical about them. They didn’t have any special abilities or skills. They had failed previously and perhaps had feelings of failure even before they finally triumphed.
Don’t give up. There is nothing wrong with you. You can succeed at losing weight regardless of what has happened before.
